In the language of the ancients, the spine is the axis mundi—the central pillar that joins heaven and earth, matter and spirit. The yogic masters called its subtle interior Sushumna Nadi, the channel through which Kundalini ascends, illuminating consciousness as it rises. Modern anatomy describes a luminous parallel: the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), a crystalline solution that nourishes and protects the brain and spine while carrying subtle rhythms of life and awareness. In this shared image of fluid luminosity—scientific and symbolic—we glimpse the same mystery: the human body as conduit of living light.
This November, our Kundalini Yoga and Meditation series explores that sacred axis through movement, breath, and stillness. Each 75-minute class blends pranayam, kriya, and meditation, awakening the spine’s vitality and deepening the felt connection between grounding and transcendence. We’ll move from the base of the spine toward the crown, strengthening the nervous system, balancing the glandular system, and refining perception of the body’s subtle currents. The atmosphere of late autumn—cool, luminous, and inward-turning—supports our practice of rooting down and rising up, cultivating steadiness before the coming stillness of winter.
Whether you are returning to practice or joining for the first time, this month invites you to experience the spine not merely as anatomy but as the living axis of awareness—the tree of light within.
